If you believe that the standard Cost of Attendance (COA) does not accurately reflect your basic educational expenses, you may submit a Cost of Attendance Adjustment Appeal. If your appeal is approved, you will receive additional loan funds. Due to annual and aggregate loan limits, it is possible that your eligibility could be restricted to a Parent PLUS Loan and/or Alternative Loan.
Types of expenses that can be considered for a COA Adjustment Appeal:
- Housing (your share only)
- Utilities (your share only)
- Medical/Dental/Optical (not covered by insurance)
- Major car repairs or unusual required transportation expenses
- Computer (One time purchase/Maximum of $1200)
- Disabled student academic expenses (not paid for by an outside organization)
Examples of types of expenses that cannot be considered for a COA Adjustment Appeal include:
- Credit card debt
- Car payments/insurance
- Expenses incurred prior to the beginning of the academic year
- Expenses for extracurricular activities (such as conferences, sports, internships, etc.)
- Expenses for other family members

What are the parameters for submitting a Cost of Attendance Adjustment form?
A student’s standardized Cost of Attendance budget already includes tuition & fees, estimates of room & board, books & supplies, transportation and personal miscellaneous costs. However, if a student has other educational-related expenses not included in their budget (as outlined on the form), they may submit this form along with documentation of their expense to the Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships.
If my Cost of Attendance Adjustment form is processed, how will it impact my aid eligibility?
Financial aid (include loans) cannot exceed a student’s Cost of Attendance budget. If we raise a student’s budget due to additional expenses, then it makes room for potentially more student or parent loan eligibility. Please be aware that due to limited funds, the campus does not award institutional grants for Cost of Attendance Adjustments.
Besides submitting the Cost of Attendance Adjustment with supporting documentation, is there anything else I need to know?
Yes. The student must have accepted all federal Direct Loans in order for their Cost of Attendance Adjustment to be processed.
